Solar panels installed five or ten years ago are often still generating well — but the inverter, monitoring or system design may no longer be optimal. An upgrade can improve performance, add battery storage capability, or simply replace ageing equipment before it fails.
Atlas Solar carries out a range of upgrades to existing solar PV systems, from straightforward inverter replacements to full hybrid inverter retrofits that open the door to battery storage.
Upgrade services we offer
Inverter replacement
Inverters typically have a lifespan of 10–15 years. When yours fails or approaches end of life, we can replace it with a modern unit — often with better efficiency, improved monitoring and hybrid capability.
Hybrid inverter retrofit
Replacing a standard inverter with a hybrid inverter enables battery storage to be added to your existing solar array, without replacing the panels themselves.
Battery storage addition
Add a battery to your existing solar system to store surplus generation for use in the evenings and overnight. We'll assess your current setup and recommend the most suitable approach.
System expansion
If your roof has unused space and your DNO connection allows it, we can add additional panels to increase your system's generating capacity.
Optimiser retrofit
Panel-level optimisers can improve output on systems affected by partial shading, or where panels of different orientations are installed on the same inverter string.
Monitoring upgrade
Modern monitoring systems give you detailed visibility of your solar generation, battery state and grid import/export in real time. We can upgrade older or failed monitoring equipment.
How we approach an upgrade
System assessment
We review your existing installation — panels, inverter, cabling, metering and any existing monitoring — to understand what you have and what's possible.
Recommendation
We'll explain what we recommend and why, with clear pricing. We won't suggest upgrades that don't make financial sense for your situation.
Installation
We carry out the upgrade work to the same standard as a new installation, with full electrical safety checks and updated documentation.
Commissioning and handover
We commission the upgraded system, configure monitoring and provide updated MCS documentation where applicable.
